The GM of the Carolina Panthers joined Kyle Bailey earlier today as he recapped the Panthers eventful NFL Draft, and if a few more moves could be made before the season gets rolling.

Kyle started the interview by asking Scott when he had a good feeling that QB Bryce Young would be the number 1 pick he told Kyle it started back in February as while they didn’t want to lock into one guy, everything came back to Bryce being the guy. Scott also pointed out that the narrative about Frank Reich liking tall QBs took on a life of its own and Frank never mentioned that as he was focused on processing, decision-making, and delivering the ball.

The Panthers 2nd round pick was Ole Miss WR Jonathan Mingo as the Panthers were big fans of his for a while as he has strong hands, can fit wherever you like in Frank Reich’s offense, and gives Bryce Young another target in this offense. When it came to the Panthers 3rd round pick of Oregon Edge DJ Johnson he made it clear the question was asked to the defensive staff what do you want from these guys as they need someone who can set the edge and rush the QB while also fitting the requirements for the scheme on defense as there was a lot of conviction for him by multiple people involved and the expectation should be to see him right away.

The conversation ended with Scott Fitterer being asked about picking up the 5th-year option on DT Derrick Brown Scott called the decision a “no-brainer” as he told Kyle he is a foundational piece who can play anywhere on the defensive front while causing havoc. Scott then pointed out that the Panthers will always watch for more edge rushers and maybe a corner, but he noted he is pleased with where the roster is.
