The tragic conclusion of a multi-day search for a Louisiana student who jumped from a sunset cruise in the Bahamas was captured on heartbreaking video, which also shows his last known sighting.
The video footage from last week shows 18-year-old Cameron Robbins, who had just graduated from high school in Baton Rouge, swimming in the open seas at night near Athol Island.
Robbins was on a sunset cruise with a number of his friends to celebrate their graduation.
According to reports, Cameron went over the edge on his own free will and not only that, but also on a dare.
You can kind of tell from the video that his friends found it amusing. That is, until he disappeared behind the boat and was no longer visible to everyone, at which point they started yelling at him to take a life preserver that had been tossed to him, even though it was quite a distance away and he ultimately failed to do so.
Everyone started to freak out when he vanished. Since he vanished, Bahamian police and the U.S. Coast Guard have conducted a multi-day search.
Robbins was never located, and the search has now been suspended following several fruitless days of looking for him. The Coast Guard said, “We offer our sincerest condolences to Cameron Robbins’ family and friends.”
Robbins’ family said, “The Bahamas government has called off the rescue for Cameron and we are returning to Baton Rouge. We want to thank the Bahamas government, the U.S. Coast Guard, the United Cajun Navy, and Congressman Garrett Graves for everything they have done for us. In this time of grief, we thank our family, friends, and well-wishers for granting us the privacy we need to properly remember our son and mourn his loss.”
The video of Robbins in the water was captured on a cell phone.
