Clearly, President Joe Biden is a fan of New York City’s plan to give every resident who gets vaccinated $100.

One day after NYC Mayor Bill deBlasio announced the new policy, Biden called upon state leaders to follow the Big Apple’s lead in an attempt to boost the country’s vaccination numbers. “Today, the president is calling on state, territorial, and local governments to provide $100 payments for every newly vaccinated American as an extra incentive to boost vaccination rates, protect communities, and save lives,” reads a statement released Thursday by the U.S. Department of Treasury. “Treasury stands ready to give technical assistance to state and local governments so that they may use the funds effectively to support increased vaccination in their communities.”

Currently, about 57.1 percent of Americans are fully vaccinated, data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reveals.

Will the promise of cold hard cash convince more people to get their shots? Is this fair for people who have already been vaccinated?
