The North Carolina Department of Transportation announced that the new express lanes along Interstate 485 in south Charlotte will not open until 2025.

Despite reaching milestones such as opening a new bridge on Elm Lane and a general-purpose lane between Providence and Rea roads, other improvements are still in progress.

The project has faced delays in the past, with the goal of improving travel time reliability and traffic flow in the corridor.

The initiative began in 2007 with a study on express lanes, and the updated schedule aims to meet public expectations for the completion of the project.
