Scarlett Johansson has taken legal action after the creators of ChatGPT released an AI voice that she claims sounds “eerily similar” to her own.

OpenAI disclosed on Monday that they have discontinued the AI voice named ‘Sky’ due to its resemblance to Johansson’s voice from the 2013 film Her, despite the voice being performed by a “different professional actress” without the intention to imitate Johansson.

Contrarily, Johansson asserts that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman approached her last September to request her voice for the project, which she refused.

“I was shocked, angered, and in disbelief when I heard the released demo, as Mr. Altman chose a voice so strikingly similar to mine that even my closest friends and media outlets couldn’t discern the difference,” she stated.

She also noted that Altman tweeted the word ‘her’ upon Sky’s release.

Following this, Altman issued a second statement on Tuesday, saying, “Out of respect for Ms. Johansson, we have ceased using Sky’s voice in our products.

We apologize to Ms. Johansson for not communicating more effectively.”
