I Dreamt

“I Dream” is powerful. It’s a moving production staged by Opera Carolina that is set in the final hours of the extraordinary lives of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and his wife, Coretta.  The staging, acting and phenomenal musical performances from the cast bring history to life at Belk Theater September 16, 18 &19.
It was both painful and beautiful to watch Dr King, played brilliantly by Bass/Baritone Derrick Davis, conquer his personal struggles to lead the movement that changed our nation for the better.  The forces fighting the civil rights movement dug deep to destroy the King’s marriage, but it didn’t stop the pair from daring to dream of a better life for their children…. for all children. Despite the efforts to use his flaws to stifle social justice, the young preacher from Alabama became an icon and his memory is a national treasure. He proved that we don’t have to be perfect to reach the mountaintop.
