1. Funeral services were held yesterday in New York for Gabby Petito, the 22-year-old blogger whose murder while on a cross-country adventure fueled intense interest across the nation and spurred a manhunt for her missing fiancé and now wanted man.
Locally the family of 41 year old Deidre Reid believes her case is similar to Petito’s. Police have listed Emanuel Bedford as person of interest in the search for the Pageland, South Carolina mom. Reid’s siblings told WBTV that Bedford is the father of Deidre’s youngest child.

2. Several children hit by gunfire in Charlotte recently seems to have motivated some local groups to take action. A group called 1 love is handing out free gun locks. and yesterday Heal Charlotte spent time working on a “Stop the Violence” marketing campaign. The organization is enlisting the help of social media influencers, athletes and entertainers to address violence prevention on all social media platforms. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says that of the 70 homicides in the Queen City this year, 10 have involved juveniles.

3. Charlotte’s 57th Annual Festival in the Park finished up yesterday, but some animal rights activists say it wasn’t all fun and games for the camels. A vendor that has been with the festival for years was on site giving $10 camel rides for anyone less than 180 pounds. Why is it a problem now. Some local activists call the rides abuse and Charlotte City Council is holding a public hearing for a long-delayed exotic animal ordinance tomorrow.
