Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa-Hackman’s two surviving dogs, Bear and Nikita, have been successfully rehomed, according to Santa Fe Tails owner Joey Padilla.

“We went through stringent efforts to ensure the best homes were found, and the dogs have already begun settling into their new lives,” Padilla said.

The dogs have found new homes after stringent efforts to ensure their well-being.

The couple’s third dog, Zinna, was found when Gene and Betsy’s bodies were discovered in their Santa Fe home on Feb. 26.

Zinna likely died from dehydration and starvation, the Associated Press reported.

Padilla expressed gratitude for the concern and well-wishes for Bear and Nikita during their transition and hopes for their continued privacy and healing.

Bear and Nikita helped authorities find Gene and Betsy’s bodies when officials arrived at their home in New Mexico.
