Two of the greatest players in Carolina Panthers history have hung up their cleats and are riding off into the sunset.
Linebacker Thomas Davis and tight end Greg Olsen came together one last time, both signing one-day contracts so they could retire as Panthers. The Panthers hosted a retirement event to honor their legacies on and off the field.
In addition to giving Carolina 14 seasons of greatness, including becoming the team’s all-time tackle leader, Davis has positively impacted the lives of numerous middle school students through the work of the Thomas Davis Defending Dreams Foundation. Davis’ foundation doesn’t stop at providing school supplies, leadership training programs and scholarships.
The foundation’s community outreach has included feeding disadvantaged families free Thanksgiving meals and providing Christmas gifts to families in transitional housing. Davis and his wife, Kelly, have made giving back to the community a part of their mission.

When Olsen, a three-time Pro Bowler, wasn’t breaking nearly every tight end record in Panthers history, he could be spotted around the Queen City rocking his knit beanie. His exclusive beanies sold out within minutes online and $5 from every cap went to benefit Levine Children’s Hospital. That’s just a small part of what Olsen and his wife, Kara, have done for Levine. Last year they helped unveil The HEARTest Yard Congenital Heart Center at the children’s hospital. The Olsens helped to build and fund the state-of-the-art space.
