At least five people are dead after a mass shooting at a home in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Police say the victims included a doctor, his wife and their two grandchildren. The family was “very prominent and very well known” in the county, York County Sheriff spokesman Trent Faris said. A sixth person was shot and was taken to a local hospital with “serious injuries.”

The shooting happened around 4:45 p.m on Wednesday evening.

Dr. Robert Lesslie, 70, his wife, Barbara Lesslie, 69, and their grandchildren Adah Lesslie, 9, and Noah Lesslie, 5, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the York County coroner’s office. James Lewis, 38, was found dead outside. Lewis was working at the home at the time, police said.

Police said a suspect was “found in a nearby house,” in a tweet just after 1:30 a.m. Thursday and added, “There is no active threat to the community.”

Lesslie practiced in the area since 1981 and founded Riverview House Calls & Riverview Hospice and Palliative Care, according to its website.

For seven years, Dr. Lesslie wrote a weekly medical column for The Charlotte Observer, presenting a wide variety of topics, both medical and editorial. He and his wife have four children and eight grandchildren, according to a website bio.

“It doesn’t happen here,” Faris said at the press conference. “It’s one of those strange things that a lot of people are going to have a hard time understanding.”
