Charlotte FC answered the critics on Saturday by staying alive in the MLS Cup playoff picture with a brilliant come-from-behind 3-2 victory over the Chicago Fire. After a dismal first half which ended with Charlotte on the wrong side of 2-nil score.  However, the second half was an entirely different exercise as Karol Swiderski, the Polish international star scored twice including the game-winner in the 96th minute. Not only did the goal keep Charlotte’s playoff hopes alive, Swiderski becomes the first player since 2018 to score ten goals for an expansion club in their first season of play.

As the MLS goes into its short international break, Charlotte FC is sitting in 10th place in the table with 38 points, and three teams ahead of them for the final playoff spot (Miami 42 points, Columbus 42 points & Atlanta 40 points). With only three matches remaining, the odds of making the playoffs are long, but this team has shown remarkable resiliency this season.

Charlotte FC’s next match will come at home against the Philadelphia Union on October 1st at 5:30pm. The Union currently sit on top of the Eastern Conference Standings with everything to play for as they battle LAFC for the Supporters’ Shield (An annual award that goes to the team with the best soccer record in the standings.).

As with every Charlotte FC match, the showdown with Philadelphia can be heard live on Sportsradio 92.7 WFNZ as Will Palaczcuk and Jessica Charman provide the play-by-play.
