Carolina Panthers v Washington Commanders

Former Panthers QB Jake Delhomme joined Kyle Bailey on Tuesday’s edition of The Clubhouse as he reacts to the firing of Matt Rhule and how the Panthers go about the last 12 games of the season.

Jake started off by reacting to Matt Rhule’s firing on Monday as he said you could feel this happening as there was a weird feeling around the game against the 49ers on Sunday. The ultimate downfall for the Rhule era according to Jake was the fact that he was unable to find a QB as he noted that does a lot of coaches in and it was no different here.

The Panthers now turn to Steve Wilks as interim Head Coach as Jake agrees with a lot of people that Wilks was not given a fair shake in Arizona, and this is a tough task but Jake made it known that Steve makes everything purposeful and he believes he will not lose the attention of the locker room.

Kyle then asked about the offensive struggles that have played a big part in the Panthers struggles:

“I think there is more talent on this team than the previous 2 years, and I thought our offense would be better than it has been. Our O-Line is doing ok and the rookie (Ikem Ekwonu) looking like a hit along with getting Christian McCaffrey back, it’s just the passing game hasn’t gotten going.”

Jake went on to remind us that the situation Baker was put in to learn a new offense on quick notice with a new team is hard and he is frustrated that this team is 1-4 because he was adamant in telling Kyle that this team is better than that.

When it comes to the QB position moving forward with Baker banged up and Sam getting closer to coming off of IR Jake doesn’t know how close Sam is to returning, but we’re probably going to have to see him at some point, especially with Steve Wilks doing everything to help the team win.
