Carolina Panthers v Baltimore Ravens

The Panthers legendary WR turned NFL Network Analyst joined the Kyle Bailey Show on Monday to recap the Panthers loss to the Ravens as well as the future of Baker Mayfield.

Despite the loss on Sunday, the conversation started on a positive note as Steve commended the job the Panthers defense did against Lamar Jackson and the Ravens Steve admitted he was surprised with how much they were able to slow down Lamar and they did their job, unfortunately, the Panthers offense did not.

Steve also said that Steve Wilks proved to a lot of people what he can do as the interim HC it’s just the what-if game with Wilks and if he had a better situation on the offensive side of the ball. The one question Steve really had is what is behind the offense not showing up and some of the playcalling from Ben McAdoo.

The focus turned to Baker Mayfield as Steve said he had a problem with how he said “I” when he was talking about his struggles despite being prepared, but when it comes to execution he said that “We need to execute better.”  as Steve said he is looking at only one side of the field at times and doesn’t go through progressions. Steve hated that when he prepares it is “I” but when he messes up it is “we” instead of “I”.

The conversation went deeper with Baker and his future as Steve told Kyle:

“It’s tough to watch (him play QB). We’re playing 10 on 11 and the 11th guy that we can’t count on touches the ball every single time. There is no possible way any team looking for a foundational QB should sign Baker Mayfield this offseason.”
