The retro song on Spotify with the most streams this year is “Running Up That Hill” by Kate Bush.
Thanks to the success of Netflix’s smash series Stranger Things, the song’s Spotify streams increased by 8,700% this year.
The song plays a literal life-saving role in the ’80s-set Stranger Things’ fourth season and is heard in several pivotal scenes as well as in the trailer for Volume 2.
The song overtook Harry Styles’ “As It Was” at the top of both Billboard global charts in June after the series’ May 27 premiere.
According to Billboard, the song’s 1985 debut only allowed it to reach number 30 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.
