Volkswagen is recalling 42,000 Beetles to replace their potentially dangerous Takata air bags.
The affected vehicles include 2015 and 2016 model years.
Dealers will replace the driver’s air bag in the Beetles. Owners will be notified by letter starting Feb. 17.
It’s part of the massive Takata air bag recall, which began in 2013 due to faulty inflators that can explode with too much force and hurl shrapnel, says The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The air bags have been linked to 33 deaths worldwide since 2009.
Why is the Takata air bag recall still going on nearly a decade later? Were you affected by it?
