The Beat Writer covering the Rams for The Athletic joined the Kyle Bailey Show on Monday as she broke down the Panthers hiring Ejiro Evero as their DC, and what he brings to the table.

Jourdan started the interview by reacting to the Panthers bringing in Ejiro Evero as the new DC as she called it a Home Run hire for the Panthers not only as a coach but because it is a modern hire for the NFL as Ejiro is on the front line with how defenses are changing across the league. Jourdan also noted that Ejiro was with Brandon Staley and the Rams when this defensive philosophy was born in 2020 based on Vic Fangio’s scheme, and now she is excited to see how he molds it into his own in Carolina.

When it comes to the current personnel on Carolina’s defense Jourdan pointed out that while Ejiro technically runs a 3-4 scheme, you can’t hold it to those parameters as the defense shape-shifts up-front as they run a lot of light boxes, and they change their coverage concepts in an aggressive way which is called a “Match Zone”. Jourdan then pointed out that the defense can show sort of a shell coverage pre-snap and then the defense can look like a man coverage team post-snap.

The conversation turned to Frank Reich as Jourdan thinks the reason why the Panthers are building a strong staff right now is that people gravitate towards Frank Reich and he is also very collaborative, which might play a major factor (outside of the money) as to why Carolina is building a strong staff early on.
