More than half of the world’s population will be overweight or obese by 2035, a new report reveals. Released Friday by the World Obesity Federation, the 2023 World Obesity Atlas report claims at least 51 percent of the world will be “living with overweight and obesity within 12 years — if prevention, treatment and support do not improve.” The report also projects childhood obesity rates to double to 208 million for boys and 175 million for girls. According to the World Health Organization, a person with a body mass index of more than 25 is overweight, while someone with a BMI of 30 or more is obese.

Tomorrow is World Obesity Day which addresses the looming crisis.
