Lady Gaga surprised the crowd by performing her Oscar nominated song at the 95th Annual Academy Awards last night. Originally, she bowed out of performing stating that she was on set filming the Joker sequel. Instead, last minute, she showed up and stunned the crowd and viewers alike.

Lady Gaga underwent a dramatic transformation for her performance of “Hold My Hand” at the 2023 Oscars, trading her elaborate gown and full makeup for a T-shirt and jeans and a bare face.

Before launching into the song, Gaga gave a short speech about its importance to her: “I wrote this song with my friend BloodPop for the film Top Gun: Maverick in my studio basement. It’s deeply personal for me and I think that we all need each other. We need a lot of love to walk through this life and we all need a hero sometimes. There’s heroes all around us in unassuming places, but you might find that you can be your own hero even if you feel broken inside.”

The performance was beautiful and received a standing ovation, but the Oscar  for Best Original Song went to Naatu Naatu from RRR.
