Construction has started on a community called the River District in west Charlotte, between the airport and the Catawba River.
Spanning 1,400 acres it’s the largest piece of undeveloped land left in Charlotte.
Once complete it will have more than 5,000 homes, 1,000 hotel rooms, offices and commercial spaces but here’s the kicker: It will preserve over 500 acres of land, feature a riverfornt park and 30 miles worth of trails.
But wait, there’s more. It will feature an event space, parks, an event lawn and a two-acre working farm.
Due to the size and scale of the project it’s expected to take a decade to complete.
