A handful of bills to legalize marijuana for both medical and recreational use were filed in North Carolina's General Assembly this week. Senate Bill 711 would allow doctors to prescribe cannabis for debilitating conditions such as cancer, AIDS, Parkinson's disease, and multiple sclerosis.

Wake County announced Thursday evening that it stopped administering Johnson & Johnson doses at PNC Arena after 18 of the more than 2,300 people vaccinated experienced adverse reactions. People at the site were given the option of the Pfizer vaccine or allowed to reschedule their existing J&J appointments, according to officials.

As of Thursday, nearly 927K positive cases and 12,224 deaths were reported. The state also reported 1,004 people were currently hospitalized with the virus. In addition, the percent of positive COVID-19 tests in North Carolina has decreased to 5.1%. Officials say there were 2,087 new cases and 12 additional deaths added on Wednesday.

At the age of 20, Long was arrested by Concord police and accused of raping 54-year-old Sarah Bost. Lawyers for Long claimed investigators lied about evidence and fought for years to have the conviction thrown out. An all-white jury of Long's peers found him guilty in a Oct. 1, 1976 verdict.

Dr. Robert Lesslie, 70, his wife, Barbara Lesslie, 69, and their grandchildren Adah Lesslie, 9, and Noah Lesslie, 5, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the York County coroner's office. James Lewis, 38, was found dead outside. Lewis was working at the home at the time, police said.

According to CMPD, a man wielding a metal post used for street signs entered the Plaza Sundries in the CATS Center downtown on Tuesday. Surveillance video shows 24-year-old Xavier Rashee Woody-Silas destroying merchandise while shouting anti-Asian slurs at the store's owners.
