Concord, North Carolina has approved a new social district that will allow sipping and strolling in the downtown area starting August 1.

The city council voted in favor of the initiative, and participating businesses will provide to-go cups for customers.

Signs will be posted downtown to indicate the boundaries of the social district and which establishments are involved.

This move follows a trend of other communities implementing similar social districts to promote a vibrant and social atmosphere.

Plaza Midwood and Huntersville in Mecklenburg county now have social districts similar to the one coming to Concord.

Proper signage is required in these districts to convey the hours and the defined hours.

Furthermore, specially branded cups must be used by patrons.
