A recent poll conducted by the University of Michigan Health C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital National Poll on Children’s Health revealed that many parents use Santa Claus and the threat of no gifts to encourage better behavior in their young children.

However, pediatrician Dr. Susan Woolford warns that empty threats and bribes are not effective long-term discipline strategies.

The poll also found that many parents struggle with consistency in discipline, with some admitting to becoming overly irritated or too tired to stick to their strategies.

Woolford recommends positive reinforcement and consistent discipline to shape long-term behavior in children, emphasizing the importance of planning ahead and being on the same page with discipline strategies.
