The 2025 Oscars began with a dazzling musical tribute to The Wizard of Oz by Wicked stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

Grande opened the show with a heartfelt rendition of ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ in a red gown reminiscent of Dorothy’s ruby slippers.

Then, in a white gown with purple flowers, Erivo performed ‘Home from The Wiz’. The medley set the stage for a night of celebration, honoring The Wizard of Oz’s legacy and showcasing the Wicked duo’s vocal brilliance.

The Oscars were also filled with controversial moments and provided a platform for important political messages.

Adrien Brody’s anti-war speech, Zoe Saldana’s celebration of her immigrant roots, and the win of ‘No Other Land’ for Best Documentary shed light on pressing issues like war, immigration, and human rights violations.

Guy Pearce’s support for Palestine and Mikey Madison’s recognition of sex workers in her acceptance speech added depth to the event.

These moments highlighted the power of Hollywood to address social and political issues on a global stage.
