Ardrey Kell High School Principal Brooks Suspended With Pay

CMS has not disclosed the reason for the suspension or when she might return to her position.

Ardrey Kell High School Principal Jamie Brooks has been suspended with pay, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) records obtained by WCNC Charlotte.

Public records indicate that Brooks was suspended on May 2; however, CMS has not disclosed the reason for the suspension or when she might return to her position.

Brooks has worked with CMS since 1994, beginning her career as a teacher at Carmel Middle School. She later served as assistant principal at Mint Hill Middle and Ardrey Kell before becoming principal at Community House Middle School in 2008. She was named principal of Ardrey Kell High School after that role.

This is the second suspension of an Ardrey Kell principal in recent years. Brooks’ predecessor, David Switzer, was suspended in 2020 following misconduct allegations and later reassigned.

CMS’s full letter to families regarding Brooks’ suspension:

“Good afternoon Ardrey Kell families.

At Ardrey Kell we remain focused and committed to our shared goals and students. We have strong systems and dedicated people in place to ensure continuity and support for our staff, students, and families.

With that in mind, we want to share that Principal Jamie Brooks is away for a period. During this time, assistant principal Tomica Wright is the lead school administrator, with assistance from our performance area executive director Crystal Houser. They will ensure that everything continues to run smoothly for teaching, learning and campus business.

We understand that this change may cause some concerns, but rest assured that this will not affect the daily operations of the school. The Performance Area Superintendent, Cristi Bostic will offer support to reduce any impact to the learning environment and work with staff.
