Cost of Thanksgiving Dinner Declines

It feels like everything costs more than ever.  But the American Farm Bureau Federation released its annual Thanksgiving report.  And they say the cost of Thanksgiving dinner has DROPPED for the third straight year.

They base it on what you’d need for a basic Thanksgiving meal for 10 people . . . no frills, and no alcohol.  Just things like turkey, cranberries, stuffing, and pie.

They claim the average cost this year is $55.18, or around $5.52 per person.

That’s down 5% from last year, and is back in line with what it cost before inflation and bird flu caused a spike in 2022.

It’s the 40th year the Farm Bureau has put the report out, and they haven’t changed their list of “typical” Thanksgiving foods since the first one in 1986.  (Back then, it cost just $2.87 per person, but that’s like $8.50 with inflation.)

As always, turkey is the most expensive part of Thanksgiving dinner . . . an average of $21.50 for a 16-pound bird, or just over a third of the total cost.
