Today show correspondent Jill Martin has been diagnosed with breast cancer after testing positive for the BRCA gene.

She will be taking a leave of absence to undergo a double mastectomy and hysterectomy.

Martin is feeling “devastated” but also “empowered” over taking control of her health.

She will also have her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed in a few months.

Martin is grateful for her loving husband, family, and friends who have provided her with an incredible support system.

Martin is 47 years old and her mother was diagnosed in her late 40s, underwent a double mastectomy and is “healthy” now, she said. Her grandmother died of breast cancer.
