Detroit Lions v Carolina Panthers

The preseason has been over for a week now, but that doesn’t mean that the opinions on Bryce Young’s first preseason have slowed down any. Over the course of the three exhibition games, Young went 14-24, for 129 yards, and one passing touchdown. In the preseason finale against the Lions, the #1 picked looked the part, going 7-12, for 73 yards, and a touchdown pass to Adam Thielen. That was enough to calm down some concerns that maybe the Panthers invested the #1 pick in the wrong QB.

While guys like Michael Lombardi, and Chris Simms have voiced their complaints, not everyone in the NFL media is concerned about the way Young looked in the preseason. Mike Golic Jr. joined the Wes & Walker Show earlier this week, and when asked about what he saw from Bryce in the preseason, he responded: “This is the exact Bryce Young I saw at Alabama, incredible, high-functioning accuracy.” Golic Jr. would also rave about his pocket awareness, and his ability to manipulate the pocket, something he;ll have to do in the NFL to avoid getting seriously injured.

With as scaled back as the Panthers were in the preseason, it was going to be hard for Young to overly impress, and that’s okay, you’d rather see him flash his potential in the regular season when the games actually matter, but he still showed to justify being the #1 pick, and Panther fans should be excited to have the franchise QB they’ve longed for since the end of prime Cam Newton.

You can catch the Wes & Walker Show every weekday from 12-3 on Sports Radio 92.7 WFNZ, and the WFNZ app.
