Detroit Lions v Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers’ 2023 season is just five days away from kicking off, as Frank Reich heads to the site of the first game in franchise history that he was a quarterback for to face the Atlanta Falcons.

Unfortunately, there is a chance that he may have to do it without arguably the team’s best defensive player Brian Burns, who appears to be in the midst of a “hold-in”, a new way of pushing for a new contract without officially holding out. Burns was not with the team for practice on Thursday or the walkthrough on Monday, but was in the meetings. The fifth-year edge rusher out of Florida State is entering the final year of his rookie contract and has reportedly been seeking a long-term extension somewhere in the range of $30 million a year.

As you would expect, the Mac & Bone Show was a bit panicked by this news, to say the least. While Mac thinks the Panthers need to shoulder some of the blame, he has an issue with how Burns is going about things after his comments earlier this offseason. “His quote, I can not get out of my mind: ‘There are more important things going on than my contract’. If you’re going to talk like that, you might want to stay like that.”

Listen to the full reaction below along with the rest of the show from this morning where the guys discussed the Marquis Haynes injury, Duke beating Clemson, North Carolina showing they are the real Carolina and much more.
