Jelly Roll is facing a lawsuit for trademark infringement over his stage name, with Kurt L. Titchenell claiming that his band Jellyroll has used the name since 1980.  Titchenell seeks injunctive relief and alleges that Jelly Roll’s rise in popularity has overshadowed the band’s online presence.  In February 2024, the band’s lawyers issued Jelly Roll a cease-and-desist letter, and Jelly Roll’s attorney “inquired as to whether defendant genuinely was in competition with plaintiff.” Jelly Roll will embark on the “Beautifully Broken Tour,” which the suit claims continues to infringe. The lawsuit seeks an injunction to prevent Jelly Roll or his representatives from using that moniker during the lawsuit. Do you think Jelly Roll should have to change his name?
