Wegmans is set to open its first store in Charlotte in 2026, signaling further expansion in North Carolina’s competitive grocery market.

The popular chain’s growth adds to the state’s grocery wars, with new competition from companies like Publix, Sprouts, and Lidl.

Wegmans has a devoted following in North Carolina, with plans for strategic expansion based on factors like population demographics and growth.

The grocery store has already established a foothold in the Raleigh market.

The Charlotte store will open in Ballantyne, following a trend of new-to-town grocers choosing this area for their initial locations.

The store is expected to open in 2026 after an 18-month buildout and preparation period.

The new store will be situated at North Community House Road on the east side of Ballantyne.
