Charlotte has moved up on the annual list of the nation’s top places to retire, landing at No. 9 on U.S News & World Report’s 2025 ranking of the “Best Places to Retire” in the U.S.
The list covers the nation’s 150 largest cities, with Charlotte making a significant jump from No. 75 on last year’s list.
U.S. News made changes to its ranking methodology this year, focusing on factors such as happiness, affordability, health-care quality, retiree taxes, desirability, and job market.
Charlotte scored 6.8 out of 10 possible points this year, compared to 6.7 points in 2023.
From U.S News & World Report:
What’s it like to live in Charlotte, NC?
A charming yet sprawling Southern city, Charlotte is a pleasant urban area nestled in the Piedmont region of North Carolina, within a few hours’ drive of both the Appalachian Mountains and North Carolina’s white sand beaches.
The city has a strong economic identity – it’s the second-largest banking hub in the U.S. behind New York City – that’s helped drive consistent population growth for decades. Charlotte takes pride in its cityscape, defined by a handful of skyscrapers. But the city’s essence is perhaps better captured in its diverse neighborhoods and suburban areas, each of which has its own style and flair.
Looking ahead to 2025, the top five states Americans are moving to in 2025 include Florida, Texas, North Carolina, Colorado, and Georgia.
