Here are the big fashion “don’ts” if you’re planning a trip to a Disney park around the world:

1.  Costumes for adults.  Kids under 12 can dress like their favorite princess or pirate, but grown-ups are out of luck.  Disney wants the official characters in the parks to be the only ones in costume.  It’s to preserve the magic for children.

2.  Outfits with long trains or dragging fabric.  Think floor-length gowns, giant capes, or anything that could trip you, or someone else, in a crowd.  Disney cites safety concerns, especially on rides.  Plus, a million people will step on it.

3.  Revealing attire.  Bikinis, crop tops that mimic swimwear, or overly skimpy clothing are off-limits.  Shoes are required at all times, too.

4.  Scary or offensive clothing.  Anything that might frighten children or clash with Disney’s family-oriented vibe is banned.  That includes horror costumes or shocking graphics.

5.  Offensive tattoos.  If you have ink that could be seen as vulgar or inappropriate, you’ll need to cover it up before entering the park.

For adults who still want to channel their favorite character, there’s a thing called Disney Bound, that bends the rules a bit.  It’s where fans use regular clothing to mimic a character’s look with the same color palettes, accessories, and hairstyles.

Just remember that if it gets too close to a full costume, you might be asked to change.  Apparently, these guidelines are in place to protect the brand’s family-friendly atmosphere and keep guests safe.
