The ongoing strikes by the Writers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists have really hit California’s economy. Economists have estimated the two strikes have led to a whopping $3 billion hit on the state’s economy. With most film and television production at a standstill, other industries and businesses have felt the effect, including catering services, restaurants near studios, professional drivers, prop houses, set builders and more. There’s no end to either strike in sight, and if these strikes stretch into October, the economic impact could grow to $5 billion.

How long do you think the writer and actor strikes could last? Do you think the United States is in for a labor reckoning?
