Weight loss drugs like Wegovy or Ozempic are growing more and more popular.  But some experts say they could lead to life-threatening complications during surgery. Patients undergoing procedures that require an empty stomach could be at greater risk.  That’s because the drugs slow digestion, meaning food and liquid might still be in the stomach during surgery, which can be inhaled into the lungs during sedation. Current guidelines call for patients to skip daily medication or weekly injections before surgery – but some experts believe even more time – up to three weeks – is needed.

Have you tried any of these weight-loss drugs?  Do they need to be more tightly regulated?
