SHINE A LIGHT ON PINK

October 13th is Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Each week we will spotlight local breast cancer survivors and thrivers. This week we are spotlighting Maren, Maggie and Stacy three women in the Charlotte area living with metastatic breast cancer.

Maren’s Story:

I was diagnosed with stage 4 MBC in 2019 at age 49. I am a nursing professor at UNC Charlotte where I have worked since 2004. I live in Tega Cay with my husband, 4 children, and dog named Cooper. I like to travel and enjoy my pottery hobby!

Maggie’s Story:

Hi, my name is Maggie Fogel and I’m 47 years old and THRIVING despite THREE cancer diagnoses. After being treated for stage 0 breast cancer I was told I had only a 0.002% recurrence. And here I am living with stage 4 breast cancer for the past two years (with thyroid cancer between the two). I’m focused on living my best life and having new adventures with the family and friends I love.

Stacy’s Story:

My name is Stacy Simpson and I was diagnosed with breast cancer just after I turned 30. I had a 6 month old and a 4 year old at the time. I completed 6 months of chemotherapy, multiple surgeries as well as hospitalizations, and 12 weeks of radiation. Before I even completed radiation, I was diagnosed with stage 4 (Metastatic) breast cancer to my bones and ovaries. I continued to work full time as a nurse educator during treatment and I continue to do so now. I am LIVING and enjoying life with my family!
