Puerto Rican singer-songwriter José Feliciano’s iconic holiday song “Feliz Navidad” has become synonymous with the festive season.
The song was written in just 10 minutes and recorded in one take, but its enduring success can be attributed to its bilingual lyrics and the way it captures the joy and loneliness of Christmas.
Feliciano drew inspiration from Latin American instrumentation and song traditions, and he wanted to create a song that belonged to the masses.
“Feliz Navidad” has now become one of the top 20 most-streamed holiday songs on Spotify, solidifying Feliciano’s status as the “King of Christmas.”
