A felon who was about to be sentenced for a violent crime attacked a judge in a Las Vegas courtroom.
Deobra Redden, 30, jumped over the bench and pushed Judge Mary Kay Holthus against the wall before a brawl broke out between him and court officials.
Before the attack, Redden’s attorney asked Holthus to sentence his client to probation. Holthus then said, “I think it’s time he get a taste of something else.”
The video shared on the internet showes several other people then fought with Redden before throwing him to the ground. An alarm also sounded for several minutes alerting others to the incident.
Redden will now face multiple new felony charges of battery and battery against a protected person.
The judge suffered injuries but was not hospitalized, while a courtroom marshal is in stable condition.
The court is reviewing its protocols to ensure the safety of the judiciary, the public, and employees.
