The Boy Scouts of America is changing its name as part of a push to be more inclusive.

The 114-year-old organization will be known as Scouting America, announcing the change Tuesday at its annual meeting.

President and CEO Roger Krone said “In the next 100 years we want any youth in America to feel very, very welcome to come into our programs.”

Many inclusivity changes have already been in place for years – the Scouts began allowing gay members in 2013, lifted a ban on gay scout leaders in 2015, and began allowing girls in 2018.

The organization struggled with flagging membership following the pandemic and filing for bankruptcy after settling thousands of sexual abuse claims.
