The Baker Mayfield era has come to a swift and sudden end in Carolina.
The Panthers waived Mayfield on Monday, ending his tenure in Charlotte after just twelve games and six starts. Mayfield went 1-5 as a starter with a QBR of just 18.2, lowest in the league.
The Panthers will go with Sam Darnold and PJ Walker for the rest of the season.
It’s a swift fall from grace for Mayfield, who was drafted 1st overall by the Browns in the 2018 Draft. The Panthers traded for him in the offseason trade after the Browns acquired Deshaun Watson.
One possible landing spot for Mayfield? San Francisco, who are down to their 3rd-string QB after season-ending injuries to Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance.
