Panthers legend Steve Smith joined Kyle Bailey on Monday afternoon as he gave his takeaways from the Panthers 24-10 loss to the Falcons, including his thoughts on Bryce Young’s debut.

When looking at yesterday’s game, Steve said that the Panthers should have won the football game, but the turnovers were the difference and it ultimately did them in. Steve would also point out to Kyle that as of right now both the Falcons and Panthers are middle of the road within the NFL hierarchy.

The next topic broached was the lack of separation from the WRs as Steve thinks the Panthers missed the vertical threat that is DJ Chark and Steve also thinks saying there wasn’t a lot of separation for the Wideouts isn’t entirely fair as he thinks the playcalling didn’t help with the lack of deep routes, but Steve admitted this is what happens early on in the season, especially with a condensed preseason.

With Bryce Young, Steve didn’t mind the INTs from the rookie as he stated he would rather have a QB make mistakes than be a “Checkdown Charlie” like he saw from Desmond Ridder.
