Since COVID, there’s been a lot of talk about what’s more efficient, working from home or in an office.  But the results here seem pretty clear cut:  WORKING FROM HOME is the better option.

Researchers looked at how many times the average employee got interrupted while working in person, and remotely.

At the office, people were interrupted 17 times per week.  That’s 3.4 times a day and 884 times a year.

At home, it was only 14 times per week.  Around 2.8 interruptions per day and 723 per year.  So that’s 18% fewer interruptions than at the office.

It also looked at how many hours of “deep focus” the average person had, and working from home was better for that too.  18.6 hours a week at the office, and 22.8 hours at home.  That’s an extra four-and-a-half hours a week, a 22% gain.

In other words, sure you might get distracted at home by your pets or kids sometimes.  But they’re still less of a disruption than that annoying coworker who wants to talk your ear off.
