According to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police, gunshots were exchanged Friday between a Mount Holly Police Officer and a suspect of a breaking and entering call at around 3 am.
Joshua Tyler Funk, 24, received treatment at the hospital, then “transported to the Gaston County Jail, where he remains in their custody,” CMPD said. He is charged with first-degree murder for the shooting of a police officer.
“When officers arrived, they encountered an armed subject. During the encounter, several shots were fired between the subject and several Mount Holly police officers, in addition to a Gaston County police officer who responded to the incident,” CMPD said in a news release.
