A large piece from the 1986 Challenger explosion has been found at the bottom of the Atlantic ocean.

NASA announced Thursday that a roughly 15×15-foot piece of the space shuttle’s belly was found by divers earlier this year. Its discovery will be covered in a History Channel documentary later this month.

NASA is reaching out to families of the seven Challenger crew members before deciding on its next move.

On January 28th, 1986, the space shuttle Challenger exploded shortly after takeoff, killing seven crew members including schoolteacher Christine McAuliffe.

Did you see the Challenger explosion happen live?  Should NASA dredge up this piece, or leave it to rest in the ocean?
