Juneteenth, the holiday commemorated on June 19th is also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, and has been celebrated by communities across the country for more than a century.

The day was first recognized as a federal holiday in 2021, when President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law.
