U-Haul calculates the net gain of one-way truck rentals to determine the popularity of different states.
Texas had a net gain of about 174,000 new residents in 2022, making it the fastest-growing state. On the other hand, California saw the largest net loss of one-way movers, with over 817,000 people leaving the state in 2022.
U-Haul’s report provides insights into where people are moving, although it doesn’t directly correlate with population or economic growth.
